How to use the bill maker

  1. Pick the bill type. If your shop is not registered for GST, keep "Bill or cash memo". On the composition scheme, choose "Bill of supply". If you are registered, choose "Tax invoice", say whether your prices include GST, and set the GST rate on each line.
  2. Fill in your shop once. Name, address, phone, GSTIN and terms are saved on this device for every bill after this one.
  3. Add the order. One line per garment or extra, with quantity and rate. The amounts, GST, total and balance work themselves out.
  4. Record the advance. Enter what the customer paid today and how. The balance due is what she pays at delivery.
  5. Print, save or send. "Print or save as PDF" opens your browser's print screen. Choose "Save as PDF" to keep a copy, or print on A4 or A5. "Send on WhatsApp" opens a chat with the customer's number and the bill typed in.
  6. New bill clears the customer and items, keeps your shop details and moves to the next bill number.

Which bill should a tailor give?

  • Not registered for GST: a plain bill or cash memo, with no GST on it and without the words "tax invoice".
  • Composition scheme: a bill of supply. You cannot charge GST, and the bill must say "Composition taxable person, not eligible to collect tax on supplies". The bill maker adds this line for you.
  • Registered for GST: a tax invoice with your GSTIN, a serial number for the financial year, and GST split into CGST and SGST, or IGST for a customer in another state. Stitching is taxed at 5%, under SAC 998821. Ready garments are 5% up to ₹2,500 a piece and 18% above, so a bill can mix rates; set the rate on each line. For a customer in another state, fill in the place of supply. For a customer who is not registered and a bill of ₹50,000 or more, fill in the address too.

What goes on a tailoring bill

A good bill is the agreement with the customer: what is being stitched, the agreed price, the advance, and the trial and delivery dates. The tailor bill book format guide lists every field and the shop terms worth printing at the bottom. To set the prices themselves, see how to set stitching charges or make a rate card for the counter.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit on bills. The bill carries a small "made free at tailoringapp.com" line at the bottom.

Where are my bills saved?

Only the bill you are working on and your shop details are saved, in this browser on this device. Nothing is sent to us. To keep a record, save each bill as a PDF. If you want every bill, advance and balance kept for you, that is what Tailoring App does.

Can I print it on my phone?

Yes. On Android, "Print or save as PDF" lets you save a PDF or print to a nearby printer. On iPhone, use Print, then share the preview to save it as a PDF.
